About the designers
Birgit Hoffmann, born in 1968 in Munich, completed vocational training in cermaics before going on to study industrial design in Kiel. She then went to work for Studio & Partners in Milan as was senior designer at Peter Maly Design in Hamburg from 2000 to 2006.
In 2006, she set up her own design bureau in Hamburg focussing on furniture and interiors, working with Peter Maly and Christoph Kahleyss from 2009 to 2013. In 2011, she also took on the role of art director for FREIFRAU Sitzmöbelmaunfaktur.
Christoph Kahleyss, born in 1963 in Oldenburg, trained as a carpenter and then studied industrial design at the Muthesius Arts School in Kiel. Following stints in New York at Berger Associates and Stuttgart with Jürgen Lange Design, he set up on his own in Hamburg in 1993. From 2005 to 2011, he taught furniture construction at his alma mater in Kiel and was a lecturer at the JAK Fashion Academy in Hamburg from 2011 to 2015. He was also employed by Pater Maly between 2006 and 2013 before joining Birgit Hoffman as a partner in the firm.
Both still based in Hamburg, Birgit Hoffmann and Christoph now run a joint design bureau specialising in furniture and interiors.
